"Lost" and Found
My Yosef Binyomin Dovid was labeled pervasive developmentally disabled more than 20 years ago. He has always needed 24 hour one-on-one supervision and rarely interacts socially without constant prompting.
Rebbe Noson of Breslev writes: "even while the gates are closed and locked on every side and in every corner ~ so that one might mistakenly have thought that there was no hope, G-d forbid ~ I still believe that there remains plenty of hope! For G-d's capacity to send relief and deliverance is very great, indeed, and His power of salvation is inexhaustible!"
Last night Yosef Binyomin Dovid disappeared. This never happened before. We searched and searched to no avail. Finally, in desparation, my son and daughter ran across the street and looked in the small synagogue there. Sure enough, there was Yosef Binyomin Dovid - sitting with a chumash (Bible) - learning.
People who know my son were in the synagogue at the time. They were transfixed in amazement as they watched him sitting still and reading the chumash from the beginning - word by word, carefully pronouncing each word correctly. I too stood in amazement watching him for several minutes. He was so completely immersed in reading that he didn't even realize that I was there.
Such is the power of prayer and the Jewish Festivals. Such is one small example of G-d's kindnesses and His compassion which never ends. May we see more miracles in accordance with His will.
